Stara, a leading manufacturer of agricultural machinery and implements, continues to expand its facilities in Brazil, strengthening support for its dealer network and helping farmers get the job done.
As part of this strategy, the multinational opened a new parts distribution centre in Goiás on 18 June, strengthening its logistics network and speeding up parts deliveries across the states it serves. Located at All Park Polo Empresarial in Aparecida de Goiânia, the new facility benefits from easy access to the BR-153 highway and the region’s excellent road network.
Technology throughout the facility helps organise stock, shorten delivery times, improve parts availability and streamline aftersales operations. Read on to find out more.
Inside Stara’s parts distribution centre in Goiás
Stara’s new logistics facility in Aparecida de Goiânia occupies a 7,294.21 m² site, with 3,504.95 m² of floor space. A standout feature is its 15-metre clear internal height, the highest of any Stara distribution centre. This significantly increases the volume available for storage and allows parts to be organised more efficiently.
The facility has 18,144 storage locations across shelving, pallet racking, AutoStore and an outdoor yard, with the capacity to dispatch up to 14,000 items a day.
Brazil’s first agricultural parts distribution centre with AutoStore
Technology is at the heart of Stara’s new parts distribution centre in Goiás. One of its standout features is AutoStore, an automated storage system that makes operations significantly faster and more efficient.
As well as speeding up picking and handling, AutoStore makes better use of space, increasing storage capacity without expanding the storage footprint.
Stara Parts Manager Filipe Flores Quincoses explains the difference AutoStore makes:
Seven robots automate product storage and picking. The system organises items according to how frequently they are requested, keeping the most frequently accessed items near the top. This speeds up bin retrieval, allowing bins to be presented to the operator in an average of 15 seconds.
The investment brings greater logistics efficiency while reinforcing Stara’s pioneering approach and commitment to innovation. The new facility is Brazil’s first agricultural parts distribution centre equipped with AutoStore.
Inventory management is supported by integrated specialist systems, including SAP ERP, Sequor-LES WMS and Exacta GTP, alongside analytical tools such as Tableau, Excel and capacity simulators.
The facility also follows procedures already used at Stara’s headquarters, including barcode-based transaction records, known as LTMs, which allow parts movements to be tracked from receipt through to invoicing. It has 52 cameras, four recessed dock levellers with safety systems and roller benches to support AutoStore picking and packing.
Further automation supports box sealing and the management of reverse logistics.
States served by the new parts distribution centre
Stara’s new parts distribution centre now has exclusive responsibility for serving a large, strategically important region, as Filipe explains:
The area we cover represents one of the country’s largest agricultural markets. While the facility at our headquarters in Não-Me-Toque, Rio Grande do Sul, continues to serve the southern half of Brazil, the new distribution centre serves states in the northern half. It covers the following states:
º Bahia;
- Goiás;
- Maranhão;
- Minas Gerais;
- Mato Grosso;
- Pará;
- Piauí;
- Rondônia;
- Roraima;
- Sergipe;
- Tocantins.
Faster deliveries to the field
Stara’s new logistics facility is shortening delivery times across several Brazilian states. Depending on stock availability, the delivery service selected and the destination, parts can arrive in just a few hours.
Rio Verde, Goiás: 24 hours with standard delivery and just 3 hours 30 minutes with Stara Flash;
Patos de Minas, Minas Gerais: 48 hours with standard delivery and just 7 hours with Stara Flash;
Porto Nacional, Tocantins: 24 hours with standard delivery and just 11 hours with Stara Flash.
An internal layout organised around AutoStore helps make these faster deliveries possible by speeding up the flow of parts through goods receipt and dispatch.
To ensure delivery targets are met, Stara selected carriers with the infrastructure needed to integrate with its system. Filipe describes the rigorous selection process:
We identified and visited 38 carriers before finding those that met Stara’s standards.
Preparing the team for the new logistics operation
The new facility has a 21-person team covering operational coordination, supervision, administration, tax, invoicing, transport, quality and warehouse operations, including forklift operators and contracted support staff.
The team received training in materials handling, technical drawings, systems and AutoStore. Stara also trained parts managers and buyers at the dealerships served by the new logistics operation.
Strategic expansion to support agricultural growth
Stara’s parts distribution centre in Goiás marks another step in the company’s expansion in Brazil, strengthening its presence in a strategically important agricultural region.
By expanding parts distribution through modern, automated processes, Stara increases its capacity to serve customers and helps farmers keep their machinery working with fewer interruptions.
This reinforces the company’s commitment to the growth of Brazilian agriculture and to working alongside farmers in the pursuit of Constant Evolution.
